Love Leaf Loses Weight: The Best Teas for Healthy Slimming

With the weather showing very few signs of getting warmer and a long (and delicious) Easter weekend behind them, three of us Love Leaf ladies have gone on a health kick in preparation for summer. Of course, none of us were considering giving up the Great British drink: a good old cuppa!
Whether you’re looking for a healthy drink to stave off those sweet hunger pangs (you know, the ones you normally indulge with milk, sugar and chocolate!), or want a drink that actively helps you to lose weight, we at Love Leaf have something for you.

Gynostemma is by far the most popular addition to many a gym session. Studies have shown that Gynostemma helps the body to convert carbohydrates directly into muscle instead of fat – not a lot of drinks can say that! Drinking Gynostemma helps to maintain a healthy metabolic function, adjusting blood sugar levels to an optimum weight.

What makes Gynostemma even better is that it tastes great! Even for people who don’t necessarily like green or herbal teas, Gynostemma is very easy to drink hot or on ice, in cocktails or simply on its own. Drinking Gynostemma after the gym really makes the most of your workout.

Many of the most dedicated gym go-ers or health obsessives fall at one incredibly difficult hurdle: chocolates, biscuits, sweets, and fizzy drinks. We all have a vice, be it Ben and Jerry’s or a 7UP, so is there a tea to keep us in check?

Chocolate lovers would do well to get hold of some of our Chocolate Mint Rooibos – it’s like an Aero without the calories! Our Karma Sutra Spiced Chai is also great for that Starbucks feeling. Just make it up with half a cup of skimmed milk and half a cup of water – no sugar needed.

Love Leaf proudly offers a tea specifically for slimming, but plenty of our teas contain weight loss properties within their natural ingredients. Pu’erh tea is widely believed to aid weight loss by increasing metabolism, lowering cholesterol and promoting general well being. As an antioxidant, Gynostemma boosts the immune system by increasing the number and activity level of white blood cells. It strengthens the digestive system by assisting in liver function. Rooibos tea is a great substitute for coffee because of its strong, creamy flavour and is known to improve glucose uptake – perfect for helping you feel energetic even after a long day and a session at the gym still to go.

All tea is good for you. We promise! Even a standard cup of English Breakfast tea contains antioxidants and will help to calm you down after a long day. We all know the negative effects of an overactive mind on a tired body. Does tea make you feel good? Then go ahead and drink it!
Anyone watching their calorie or sugar intake needn’t worry about giving up tea altogether. For general wellbeing, Gynostemma is useful for a number of neurological conditions, including depression, anxiety & stress. Having a month or two away from alcohol? Drink lots of Rooibos to help aid liver regeneration. If you want to avoid sugary drinks or putting sugar in your daily tea, try one of our delicate fruity teas like Spring Berry or Cranberry and Apple..

So, what’s the best tea all round?

If you’re really serious about giving both your body and mind a new lease of life, Matcha is the miracle worker. By weight, matcha contains more antioxidants than blueberries, pomegranates, orange juice and spinach! When drunk regularly it boosts metabolism and reduces cholesterol levels.

The key to Matcha is that the whole leaf is ingested, rather than the infused water that you drink when using a teabag or filter. All green teas are good for you, of course, but this one really takes the biscuit!
Unfortunately, as well as being widely considered a rejuvenating tea, Matcha also has the reputation of being an ‘acquired taste’. Many people swear by it as a simple and refreshing drink all by itself. If you aren’t one of these people, however, luckily the powder can be added to all sorts of recipes from stir fries to ice cream, from smoothies to cocktails.

Feeling healthy can be anything from a refreshing swim with the family to a nutritious meal with friends, or even a book and a cup of our Karma Sutra Chai in perfect peace and quiet. The best health can only be achieved with the best quality tea – and we’re not just saying that! Stock up your shelves with Love Leaf and we can see a beautiful bikini body on the horizon : )

Here’s to lots of smiles and summery days,
Love from the Team x
